could also tell you about library events/new books etc. We are also looking
into the feasibility of a pre-overdue which would save you money!

Police report for the month
of February
Hello, here's the police
report for the month of February.
The
Safer Stronger Community Group priorities for the police remain as
speeding/inappropriate vehicles on the B4461 Elberton and Rockhampton. The next
meeting of this group (which is open to anyone on the Severn Ward

February
saw a total of 54
calls to the police and a fall to 7 reported crimes. At the beginning of the
month a caravan in Aust had gas bottles stolen from outside. Stables in Ingst were attacked again where doors were forced open and

that occupies the old services in Aust had money stolen from offices.
In
the middle of the month a turn out rug was stolen from a horse in a field in
Old Down and the electric fence to the field was damaged. An assault was

On
19th February a house in Redhill Lane Elberton was
subject to a burglary. At about 4.45pm offenders used a couple of large stones
to smash the glass to the door, they then climbed through forced the alarm
control pad and siren off the wall then made an untidy search of all rooms and
stole items such as a DVD player, Playstation and
games and jewellery.
A
couple of residents of Olveston tell me that they've suffered from nuisance
types of incidents where large flower planters have been turned over and other
similar sorts of things. I'm also going to include Olveston village and

Attention
all music lovers!
On Thursday 17th April, Dr David Shaw, who
has been the organist at St Mary’s Church in Olveston for a grand total of 25
years, will be giving an organ recital on behalf of ACT (
Arts and Community in Thornbury).
David has a very eclectic taste in music and this will be reflected in
his recital, but he promises there will be something for everyone. The programme will include music both ancient
and modern, with a little of David’s well-known humour and a sprinkling of
spirituals sung by the Olveston Church Choir.
The recital will start at 7.30 pm and there will be
refreshments served during the interval.
Tickets at £7.50 and £6.50 (Facts) are available at Thornbury Garden
Centre in the High Street or please ring either Jackie on 01454 416421 or Jenny
on 01454 417038 for further information.
This event is part of ACT's rolling calendar of arts events to raise
awareness of our project and should be an evening of excellent musical
entertainment, not to be missed!

exciting as it contains Thornbury Choir, TADS, concluding with a rousing
sing-a-long with the much loved Concert Party.

OLDBURY FUN RUN 2008
Once
again the 2008 Oldbury Fun Run and Walk will be held on 15th June, with the
funds raised going to CLIC Sargent. Other local causes will benefit from the
proceeds of the associated activities and stalls.
The
Fun Run is organised by the Oldbury Fun Run Committee in association with
Thornbury Running Club and is highly enjoyable for all entrants, whether they
are serious runners trying to break the longstanding course record of 18.5
minutes or toddlers enjoying a wander round with Mum and Dad.
Alongside
the Fun Run, the village will again have various stalls and attractions,
including a tug of war contest, a treasure hunt, a bouncy castle and many more
surprises. Put the date in your diaries to
make sure you don’t miss this chance for a great day out for all the family.
Register
now to save money, it will cost more on the day. For further information on the
day’s events and to download a registration form, visit the fun run website at www.007funrun.com .
Alternatively registration forms are also available from: The Anchor and
The Ship pubs in Oldbury and from Bonds Estate Agents, Thornbury Motors, Elite
Gym and The Chantry in Thornbury.
TO ALL INTERESTED IN FOOTBALL IN OLDBURY
I hope you will know by now that
the Parish Council and its Playing Field Sub-Committee have ordered an All
Weather Multi Sports Surface to be installed at the Playing Field in the next
few months. It will be marked out, have side boarding and goals suitable for
'5-a-side football. We hope a group, team(s) or club will be formed to utilize
this, and there could be an additional benefit for footballers:-
Installation of the surface
will result in up to 400 tons of top soil becoming available and this could be
an (and maybe the only) opportunity to do something about the present unusable
football pitch at an affordable cost.
It needs a group of
enthusiastic Oldbury residents interested in football to grab this chance to
restore the pitch. The Playing Field Committee will support an initiative and
we are sure funds can be raised from various sources to pay for excavation and
drainage work.
The next Playing Field
Committee Meeting is in the Pavilion on Thursday 3rd April at 7.30pm
and will start with a discussion of the possibilities for the football pitch
and, hopefully, formation of a group or club or committee to take it forward.
PLEASE COME TO THIS MEETING TO HAVE YOUR SAY.
